KREATOR LIVE REVIEW

KREATOR LIVE

Bucharest, Romania @ Polivalenta Hall 13 / 12 / 2003

by Cseke Róbert

It's December the 13'th, 4.30 am and I'm freezing my ass off in the train station of my town, Cluj-Napoca, waiting to catch the ride to Bucharest. Wouldn't want to risk missing my ride. I've heard a rumour a couple of weeks ago that Kreator was scheduled to play. 'Nah' - I thought originally. Kreator in Romania? Why would that happen? And who would go anyway... I know about 2 or 3 people max. It's probably false wind.

Darn, it's cold! Winter came a little too hard on our country this year. No one expected it to turn so cold so fast. No matter. At least it's keeping me awake - I'm coming straight from a party and I'm so totally not recovered yet. I sure hope this Kreator show is worth all the trouble. Train arrives. I get on. I'm on my way. Fall asleep several times, but always wake up when a new Kreator track comes on on my portable stereo. Everything's all right.

After endless, I mean infinite, hours I finally get to Bucharest. Should I tell you that I had no idea where I was supposed to go from the station? Not like I've ever been in our capital before - luckily I met some people on the train who were also going to see the Kreator gig.

I'm actually here. Now I'm in the arena. First row. This is going to be, at least, real. There are three bands scheduled to play in opening: Ab4, Trooper and Taine. Ab4 and Trooper are a no show... or whatever. Taine is the only opening act. In about an hour we have a full house. I mean there wasn't enough place to breathe in there. I never would have thought, that there are so many Romanian Kreator fans. Cool I thought.

Show starts. Taine comes on. They play better now than I've ever heard them. The sound equipment could have been a little better I thought. Taine is off. Kreator is on.

OMFG! Every nob on that mixing gear must have been touching the ceiling. First chords and everyone is like going insane. They played EVERYTHING from previous records. There wasn't a song that was not reaching the crowd. I'm about 10 m from the stage. Stop pushing me! I thought. I should get my camera out to take some shots. As I finally manage to get it out of my jacket, some guy bangs it out of my hand with a powerful head-blow. As with a panic-gesture I try to grab it from the air, my stereo falls out of my pocket. They're both dead and buried now I thought. Back to the party.

Two entire hours on INSANE. These guys surely know how to please a crowd I'll tell you. If there is one thing they know how to use it's the stage. Some new songs were also played but they mainly kept the known ones flowing. "You are so fucking amazing Romanian people" You are so fucking amazing yourself! So much head-banging, so much jumping around, so much fucking metal music. So much fucking fun tonight. It was worth everything. My cam. My stereo. Long trip. Long trip. Long trip back. Freezing in the station. Everything. Great night.
