A Life Once Lost was originally formed during 1998 in a Philadelphia suburb. Many line-up changes took place during the early years, eventually leaving none of the original band members in the band. They debuted in 2000 with the Loudnet Records release "Open Your Mouth For The Speechless...". 2002 saw the band recording their sophomore effort "The Fourth Plague: Flies" for the Robotic Empire label and by the time of their third release, "A Great Artist", in 2003 they had once again shifted labels to sign with Deathwish Inc., the label of hardcore legends Converge's Jake Bannon.
Former guitarist Vadim Taver left to join This Day Forward and was replaced by Robert Carpenter (As We Grow). In October 2004 A Life Once Lost signed yet another record contract with metalcore specialists Ferret Music for which they recorded "Hunter" at the Trax East Studios in South River, New Jersey, with producer Eric Rachel in January 2005. The band now found themselves well supported by a label and by the end of the year they had been out on the road alongside Fear Factory and Lamb Of God.
April 2005 found the band touring the US once more with genre colleagues Bury Your Dead, The Red Chord and If Hope Dies. In the summer of 2005 the band was included on the massive "Sounds Of The Underground" tour, a joint venture between leading independent labels Ferret Music, Prosthetic Records, Trustkill Records and Metal Blade Records. Other bands to team up for the tour were Clutch, Opeth, Chimaira, Norma Jean, Strapping Young Lad, Devildriver, All That Remains and Gwar.
In August A Life Once Lost crossed the Atlantic for a UK tour named "Under The Gun" with Every Time I Die and Twelve Tribes, followed by September dates with Unearth, The Dillinger Escape Plan and Zao. November found the band visiting Canada with The End and The Black Dahlia Murder only to round off 2005 with yet another run of dates alongside As I Lay Dying, Norma Jean and Madball.
2006 found the band continuing to tour tirelessly with bands like Himsa, Darkest Hour, The Acacia Strain, Dead To Fall, Cephalic Carnage, Scarlet, Through The Eyes Of The Dead, Napalm Death, Dead To Fall, Impaled, Arsis and Animosity and they also won themselves a slot on the prestigious Ozzfest for the summer. During March and April 2007 they took part in the "Great American Noise" tour with The Handshake Murders and Norma Jean.
