The American folk punk act Against Me! was formed in Naples, Florida, in 1997 but later on they relocated to Gainesville in the same state. Originally it was a casual solo project of Tom Gabel. Signed to No Idea Records they released their debut album "Reinventing Axl Rose" in 2002. A few label shifts followed until they signed a major label deal with Sire Records in December 2005. May 2007 saw the band supporting Mastodon on their US tour alongside Cursive and Planes Mistaken For Stars.
