The band Agua de Annique was formed in late 2006 by The Gathering singer Anneke van Giersbergen alongside Joris Dirks (guitars, vocals) and former Celestial Season members Jacques de Haard (bass) and Rob Snijders (drums). Jacques de Haard is also Anneke's husband. Over a six month period they recorded the basic tracks of a debut album entitled "Air" at the Waterfront Studios in Rotterdam and recorded overdubs at The Void in Eindhoven, as well as in Anneke's own home studio. In early June 2007 it was announced that Anneke had decided to part ways with The Gathering in order to focus on family life and her new project. Her final performance with The Gathering would be the Ankkarock festival in Finland on August 4th, 2007.
