The Danish band Anoxia was formed in Nyborg in the summer of 1996. At that time they were called "Frank Og Rødderne". They had their first rehearsal in a small practice room in Nyborg which they shared with a lot of other bands from the local music organization BUMS. The first day they wrote songs of their own and one of these - "Ghost Town" - they played live later on as well.
In 1997 the band played many shows and in the summer they rented a 4-track recording system and borrowed an old mixer to record some demo material. In the spring of 1998 they started looking for a rehearsal space of their own where they didn't have to share instruments with other bands. They found a basement room in the music building "Muzirkus" in Nyborg.
Around Christmas 1998 they recorded the cd "Rain Will Be Blood" in the Muzirkus studio (an analogue studio with 16 tracks) together with sound engineers Robert Hansen and Henrik Johannessen. Only 100 copies were made and it sold out within a few months.
After a couple of line-up changes the band recorded a new demo around Christmas 2000 in the new digital Muzirkus studio with producer Jacob Hansen (Invocator) and engineer Henrik Johannessen (Bad Monday). This demo was well received in metal media around the world.
In 2003 Anoxia released their debut album "Melanchollision".
