The Dutch band Arabesque was originally formed as an instrumental rock trio in the end of 1989. After about two months of intense rehearsing they participated in the Soulex open podium competition where they won the final. In April of 1992 they recorded their first demo tape which was very well received by international media and also got airplay on the Dutch national radio.

After this demo their sound evolved in a heavier direction and in February 1994 they recorded a second demo together with producer Oscar Holleman (ex-Vengeance). The response from the media was now even stronger. The band participated in the Popslag competition and performed live on national radio. Several record deals were also offered and the German Shark Records was chosen.

In December 1994 the debut album "Beyond The Veil" was recorded in Gelsenkirchen together with producer Wolfgang Stach (Elegy, Channel Zero and Sinister). Following the recording they played gigs with Michael Lee Firkins, Jennifer Batten, Kingdom Come and many others. This album had been completely instrumental but now Arabesque decided to add a vocalist. Auditions resulted in female singer Nicole de Serier du Bizournet joining the band in 1996.

In March 1997 they recorded four new songs but due to musical differences their label Shark Records decided not to extend their contract with Arabesque. The band qualified for the Metal Bash competition, organized by well-known Dutch magazine Aardschok, where they finished third playing at Headbangers Heaven in the Brabanthallen in Den Bosch.

In the beginning of 1998 bass player Barend Tromp decided to leave the band due to lack of time and was replaced by Frank de Groot. Together with him they performed at Bospop 1998, among Arena, Status Quo, Life Of Agony, Yngwie Malmsteen and others. In August a new demo cd was recorded with keyboard player Thijs Cuppen as they wanted to have some keyboard parts in their songs.

In April 2000 Arabesque won the W.A.F., which led to their second performance at Bospop 2000 where they shared the bill with Dream Theater, Steve Lukather, Spocks Beard, Joe Satriani, Vanden Plas and others. This was also Thijs' last performance with the band and Rene Ubachs replaced him. In the meantime Katja Salemi also replaced Nicole but only temporarily. In June they won the final of the Benelux ProgPowercontest. In November they would also be playing at ProgPower 2000 together with bands like Opeth, Everon, After Forever, Spiral Architect and Evergrey just to mention a few.

In July 2001 Nicole returned to the band and they now decided to have two female vocalists in the band. In April 2002 Arabesque also signed a new record deal with Lion Music who released their new full-length album in July.
