Band biography

Arcturus is the project of keyboardist/guitarist Sverd and drummer Hellhammer (Mayhem). The band was originally formed in 1986 as a death metal band under the name Mortem. In 1990 they changed their name to Arcturus. With their debut album they showed that they were one of the leading black metal bands of the late 1990s. Their debut 7" called "My Angel" was released on a small French underground label. After this the two founding members joined forces with Ulver vocalist Garm and Samoth from Emperor. The MCD from these four members was recorded without bass tracks. As most know Samoth was sentenced to prison and the band brought in two new members namely bassist Skoll (Fimbulwinter, Ved Buens Ende) and guitarist August from Tritonus. Together they recorded the debut full-length album called "Aspera Hiems Symfonia" for Century Black, the black metal sublabel of Century Media. Their second album was called "La Masquerade Infernale".
