Ascendancy was formed from the ashes of New England death metal band Vengeance In Blood in June 2001, when Seth and Terence departed VIB. Ascendancy began as a two-piece band with Terence on guitar and vocals and Seth on drums. Their musical styles clicked together on what they wanted in Ascendancy, just as they had in their previous band. A search ensued to fill the vacant line up spots. In the meantime a four-song demo was recorded on digital multi-tracks. Upon completion of the “Storms of Decimation” demo the limited copies sold quickly and a second printing was soon underway. Shortly prior to the release of “Storms,” in March 2002, Michael was recruited into the band on rhythm guitar. With his induction and assistance the demo was released sooner than expected. August 2002 saw the completion of the line-up as Charlene joined on bass. In September of 2002, the band had recorded the now twice sold out “Punish the Blind” EP. A new full length album is soon underway.
Seth had played in many thrash bands in the late 80’s and early 90’s, but was always striving for the perfect band that blended speed and heaviness. In his twenty years of drumming, he was never completely satisfied until Ascendancy. Terence, with ten years of experience on the guitar, had been in numerous bands in the 90's. Michael, adding another eight years of experience to the band, was also in several bands during the 90's but was never satisfied with whom he had played until joining Ascendancy. Charlene, with five years experience on bass and guitars, complemented the band on the bass, albeit being her first band ever. In August of 2003, Charlene had parted from the band to focus more on education. Josh, formerly from Massachusetts metal band Incinerate, and now the permanent bass player for Ascendancy, finally gives the band that extra step up. With 5 years experience on the bass, this full lineup makes Ascendancy a force to be reckoned with.
The band has been practicing and sharpening their skills with nearly an hour of blistering material, and new songs constantly on the way. Ascendancy’s thorough and dedicated practice methods prove to produce a tight, intense and entertaining live show. Previous shows all throughout New England and abroad have shown promise. The band has been getting great reviews for the home recorded “Storms of Decimation” demo, and the “Punish the Blind” demo EP.
Many interviews, reviews and pictures from numerous international and statewide web-zines, magazines, and a compilation for Spain’s Necromance Magazine have helped to spread the word, along with airplay on WUNH Return to the Pit in New Hampshire, and WERS Nasty Habits in Boston, to name a few. The hellish metal style of Ascendancy, along with their emphasis on speed, technicality and explosive power, make Ascendancy like no other New England metal band.
