In Summer 1995 a handful of Croatian Metal fans founded the group "Icon". The first demo tape was a cover of their favourites. At the end of 1995 they went back into the studio - this time as ASHES YOU LEAVE - to produce the demo "The kingdom before the lies". The reaction of both fans and media was outstanding and the Croatians got an offer from the Norwegian label Effigy Records.
Back in the studio they produced their debut album "The passage back to life". 1999 saw "Desperate Existence", Ashes You Leave's second album coming out, combining the d/g feeling with an atmospheric element, slightly presented in a different manner. The third album, "The Inheritance Of Sin And Shame" was released in 2000 and gathered quite a lot of praises for the band's own voice finding.
ASHES YOU LEAVE descibe their music as a style mix, and influences along the range from My Dying Bride to Cathedral are evident. But the music have a "more heavy sound" and, not forgetting the folklore roots, the Croatians mix in some violin and flute to finish.
