ASPHYXIATION is a swedish death metal band in the vein of
early DEICIDE and the likes of them.
In the steaming hot summer of 1997 Niklas "Najk" Olsson (age 15)
together with friends Magnus "Magge" Rosén (15) his younger brother Per
Rosén (13) & Gene "Zeth" Zider (19) started up the decaying corpse,
soon to be named ASPHYXIATION. In september that same year the first
demotape was recorded, containing four original songs + a cover of DEICIDEs
track "Behead the Prophet (No Lord Shall Live)" from their utimate
classic 'Legion'
The demo titled 'Moving Target' didn't really satisfy the band, thou
it still was fairly good for such a young band.
Niklas, "Magge" & Per went on with school, and for two years not much
happened with the band. Altough a couple of songs had been written over
this span of time, therefore ASPHYXIATION felt obligated to record
their second demotape 'Towards Deth', wich contained four tracks of total
and utterly violent mayhem.
Asphyxiaton is now laid on ice for a while due to unclair
circumstances.. And time marches on.. Drummer "Zeth" leave the ranks during this
period, exact date for this event january 2:nd 2001.
But in the early summer of 2002 Niklas and "Magge" graduate from high
school, and the time to record demo #3 'Lifeless Through Suffocation'
is right. "Magge" pick up the drum sticks, without putting down his
guitar. So what came out of this recording? Five massive death metal
hymns, each capable of cracking glass. The title track had a memorable
furious triple-axe-guitar attack since close friend of the band, Andreas
contributed with his fast fingers on guitar.
Early in 2003, sorrow hits the camps as bass player Per (age 19) passes
away due to exstensive liver complications.. Older brother Magnus now
decides to leave Asphyxiation..
Niklas solo? No not so likely, and ASPHYXIATION is once again laid on
ice.
In late november Magnus Rosén commits suicide, leaving Niklas and
fellow band members in Magnus own SHOCK WAVE stranded in deep sorrow for
losing a close friend, as well as a bend member.
Niklas had been talking for a while with close friend Daniel Silfver,
at the time fresh vocalist in SHOCK WAVE about joining ASPHYXIATION. And
after "Magges" demise Silfver decides to join the now re-animated
decaying corpse known as ASPHYXIATION.
Niklas had three finished songs in his head "Where Art Thou?", "Shades
of Infinity" and "Calling of the Damned" just waiting to be recorded.
So one early saturday morning in december Niklas and Silfver took the
train to capitol city Stockholm. Where the recording took place, over the
weekend at the private studio in friend Andreas Nymans home. Surprise,
surprise to the band when former drummer "Zeth" showed up and asked if
he could join ASPHYXIATION again. The band gladly accepted, and so the
drum position was once again filled. Local Fredrik Sundfors helped out
by playing the bass guitar. Demotape #4 titled 'Shades of Insanity'
wasn't finished until early january 2004.
Later on in the summer of 2004, ASPHYXIATION recorded two songs for a
self released single. The quest for a record deal, is still at large.
In early 2005 Gene Zider left ASPHYXIATION for a second time, and the
band is currently without a drummer.
