Atrox was originally founded in late 1988 under the name Suffocation but since there were several other bands going by that name they changed into Atrox in 1990. After recording a couple of demo tapes they signed record deals with Head Not Found and Danza Ipnotica before finally ending up on the French label Season Of Mist. In the early days they were playing death metal but they have later on adapted a much more experimental sound which have gained them a lot of positive critics in the alternative press. The female vocalist Monika Edvardsen is a sister of 3rd & The Mortal's Ann-Mari Edvardsen.
