After playing several years in the death metal band "Internal Putrefaction", Bert Ferwerda (guitar) , Meindert Sterk (bass guitar) and Hilbrand v.d Woude (drums) decided in the autumn of 1995 to fulfill their wish, namely to play music that creates an mysterious and sultry atmosphere.
The first year was one of experimenting and line up changes, at the time ,the band was called "Stonehenge", they practised with different keyboard players but when Menno Terpstra performed his gloomy hymns he turned out to be the right person for this job, meanwhile the band was baptized AUTUMN. Two months later Hilbrand was replaced by Jan Grijpstra (No Excuse). A few female singers came for a try out and in the spring of 1996 Welmoed Veersma joined the band. She had a Celtic timbre in her voice that made her the ideal singer for the band.
The combination of an female singer with bombastic riffs and melancholic interludes perfectly reflects the lyrics, which take you into tales about mysteries and legends.
AUTUMN was ready to compose serious songs and in the summer of 1997 they launched their first 4 track demo c.d. titled : "Samhain". After this release the band did a lot of gigs in the north of the Netherlands.
In the spring of 1999 Welmoed left the band and was replaced by Nienke de Jong (Her Enchantment, guestvocals by God Dethroned and Callenish Circle) . The band decided that AUTUMN needed more power in their songs and a month later they found in Jeroen Bakker (Legacy of hate) a good rhythm guitarist.
In the summer of that year they recorded a 3 track promo c.d. . AUTUMN is now complete and busy with writing material for their next c.d. .
In July 2001 Jeroen and Bert left the band and with Jasper Koenders (Her Enchantment) to join Autumn, they were busy preparing for the recordings of their debut c.d.
The release of the c.d., which will probably be called: "When lust evokes the curse", is scheduled to be in March.
