Bad Brains are an American punk band from Washington D.C., where Minor Threat also started. They originally started under the name Mind Power in 1976 as a fairly ordinary jazz-fusion band by singer Sid McCray, in the mould of bands such as Chick Corea's Return to Forever and John McLaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra. The band later became obsessed with punk rock and soon changed their name to Bad Brains around 1977. After spending almost five years as a local band, Bad Brains signed a deal ROIR Records for their 1982 self-titled debut and had released a number of albums since then. Sadly, Bad Brains had broken up and reformed several times over the years, sometimes with different singers and/or drummers. While reforming in the early 2000s, Bad Brains toured under the name Soul Brains. It is rumored that the Bad Brains took this name because they had temporarily lost possession of the original band name. On this day, the band is still together (as Bad Brans) and even have a new album coming out real soon.
