Tom Gattis, (vocals/guitar) first entered the scene way back in 1978 in the cult classic metal band DEUCE. Along with high school classmate Marty Friedman, Deuce tore up the local scene that was dominated by soft rock. "Metal was dead then, and we had no idea that years later, bands like Maiden and Metallica were going to hit big." Tom then went on with TENSION, releasing a well-received album in '86. In 96 Tom joined Wardog and signed with the Metal Blade records. Wardog played great live shows with incredible receptions in Europe in the late 90's.
Rikard Stjernquist (drums) first hit the stage with Colorado's SALEM'S SPADE in the early 80's. In 1986, Rikard joined the legendary JAG PANZER, and in the early 90's, helped that band climb to the top of the metal world. Through many shows both in America and Europe, Rikard continues to be the backbone for these metal giants today.
Tim O'Connor (Bass) also began playing in the late 70's to more progressively oriented bands. In 85, Tim joined Tom in TENSION, and recorded the classic "Breaking Point" in 86. After the band's break up in '88, Tim focused on the complex world of jazz-fusion, and continued to play local gigs throughout the Washington D.C. area. With undeniable talent, and incredibly clear playing, Tim adds a dimension to Ballistic's music that is almost unheard of today.
Petio Petev (Guitar) is the youngest member of the group. Petio arrived in America roughly 5 years ago from his native land of Bulgaria. In 2003, Petio recorded an impressive CD with a Phoenix based progressive band named MASS OF VIRTUE. Although he is relatively new to the music scene, he has many years of classical training behind him. His lightning-fast speed and tasteful riffs made him a logical choice for the lead guitar position.
After Tom's departure from Wardog in 2000, he set out to find the best musicians possible to play the intense metal he had been craving. His choice for bass and guitar players was obvious: "Tim had played bass in Tension and he was great back then, now he is unbelievable. I heard Petio play only a few leads and I knew he was the guy as well, just fast as hell!" In 2001, Ballistic released a very well received demo "Gone Ballistic". Although with a different drummer, this demo appeared in a few CD compilations in European magazines, and started quite a buzz in the metal underground. In 2002, long-time producer John Herrara led Tom to Rikard. Rikard joined Ballistic, and he and Tom began writing for their debut CD.
On September 8th, the debut "Ballistic" will be unleashed on the masses. Produced by John Herrera and Achim Kohler, this is the CD Tom always wanted: "It goes back to my roots and what is in my heart. It's easy to forget, with Ballistic being a "new" band, that I've been at this for over 25-years and my sound is just that. If you look at all the bands that have made it, they did so by being themselves instead of molding into something that is already peaking. The best we can do, is to be the best that we are, and that is BALLISTIC. If it happens for us, that's great. But if not, then at least now we have an amazing album to leave the world. I sure as hell can live with that!"
Because there are no limits to what these musicians can play, BALLISTIC looks forward to a future of compositions and performances that will rip the very foundation of the metal underground, and leave the fans in a hellish frenzy that can only be topped by their next album.
