Black Crucifixion began in 1991, featuring Fornicator (vocals) and Blacksoul (guitar) with Beherit members Sodomatic Slaughter (drums) and Wennström (bass) joining them. The band debuted two weeks later at the Metal festival Day of Darkness in Oulu, alongside such acts as Impaled Nazarene, Amorphis, Belial, and Sentenced.
