Classic Iron Maiden, Queensryche and Jag Panzer are names that come to mind when listening to the debut album Sands of Time from new Australian band BLACK MAJESTY. Honestly - how long have we missed an album that not only reminds us of powerful melodic metal while also reaching back to the heaviness of vintage metal heroes? Finally - BLACK MAJESTY do the trick! The band was established in 2001 and in the Summer of that year the Sands of Time three song promo sampler was released to the underground and metal media to begin the BLACK MAJESTY charge forward.
Queen of the Reich started the career for Queensryche and Fall of the Reich has done same for BLACK MAJESTY. This song was hand picked by well known German Magazine "Rock Hard" to be included on "Unerhört"-CD being chosen over thousands of other competing songs. A band that conquers Germany with just one song? The last band to make such impact on its introduction was Hammerfall in 1997. Fall of the Reich had the underground asking for more and to the delight of many new fans the song Guardian (also from the three song promo) was chosen to be included on "Heavy, Oder Was!?" magazine's "Metal Crusade"-CD. With huge positive responses spreading around the metal world relating to BLACK MAJESTY, Limb Music Products were quick to sign the band and offer the Sands of Time debut to the world. So what is so special about BLACK MAJESTY?
Firstly, there is John 'Gio'Cavaliere's incomparable voice - already respected as one of Australias's best metal vocalists - and not without reason! Apart from blowing audiences away on a recent Edguy Australian tour support Vanishing Point asked him to sing on the track 'Surreal' on their album "Tangled In Dream" and it was an honour for singers like Silvio Massaro (Vanishing Point) and Danny Cecati (Eyefear, ex-Pegazus) to return the favour with guest vocal spots on the debut BLACK MAJESTY album. But let's not forget the rest of the band when it comes to musical muscle and metal crunch. The dark guitar riffing of Stevie Janevski (ex-Cyclone Tracy) and Hanny Mohamed (also currently the bass-player for Pegazus) often reminds you of the great Metal Church debut album. The rhythm section consisting of Czech drummer Pavel Konvalinka (ex-Kryptor, ex-Leprocide) and bassist Mark Kelson (ex-Cryptal Darkness) further builds on the BLACK MAJESTY solid foundation refining the band's distinctive in your face sound. With "Sands Of Time" as a mighty introduction BLACK MAJESTY are well on their way to the top!
