CAGE has once again pushed the boundaries of the heavy metal genre and set the new standard with their brilliant release of DARKER THAN BLACK. Make no mistake, this soon to be classic is not just another group of rehashed, left over material from the past so often found in today‘s crowded metal world. This new offering again has CAGE jumping light years beyond their last release, with fresh new ideas and innovations, and yet DARKER THAN BLACK retains the signature heavy metal CAGE sound. Early reviews have unheard of praise, shouting loudly, that a new king of heavy metal has seized the throne. Founded in 1992, CAGE battled through the grunge era, defying all the current trends that so many of the unfaithful foolishly flocked to. Relentlessly perfecting their craft from their home in San Diego California, the power vacuum created by the departure of so many groups in the genre, left CAGE virtually alone to seize the spotlight. After releasing their debut cd UNVEILED, it is well known how they were overwhelmingly embraced by metal fans around the world due to their pure devotion and authenticity. This was proven to be true as they were voted by the fans of ROCK HARD as best newcomer, and late rocked the DYNAMO in Holland. Following up with such high praise would have been impossible at best for most, but their second offering ASTROLOGY, erased any notion that CAGE was going to let down the growing legions of heavy metalheads who believed the band was something special. ASTROLOGY was a massive leap from the previous cd in every way, and critics and fans alike agreed. Charting high and out rocking all others, ASTROLOGY was an unbelievable accomplishment but truly the best was yet to come. Their 2001 appearance at the WACKEN sent thousands of head bangers into a frenzy. The press took notice calling the bands performance „By far, one of the best of the entire festival!“ With a stunning cover painted by Marc Sasso, DARKER THAN BLACK was also graced by the production talents of Richard Carr ( HALFORD and BRUCE DICKINSON asst.) who used his talented metal mind and ear to make this the best sounding CAGE record ever. Elements of Black metal, death metal, and everything in between are seamlessly woven together as each memorable track takes hold of the listener. The vocal talents of Sean Peck allowed new heights to be reached as his screams and various character voices are layered for truly stunning results. One listen and you will truly appreciate the accomplishment CAGE has made with DARKER THAN BLACK; the rare combination of fantastic songs, and the dominating ability to deliver the goods.
