When the Texas based thrash metal band Gammacide had split up in the early 90s, vocalist Varnam Ponville and guitarist Scott Shelby relocated to Varnam's hometown Louisiana to form a doomy thrash metal band called Cauldron in the summer of 1993. Joining them were bassist Zeb Perkins and drummer Jason Thibodeaux. Their 1997 debut album was produced by Tim Kimsey (King Diamond, Mercyful Fate) at the Nomad Recording Studio in Dallas, Texas. Their first album was distributed by Brainticket Records.
