The Dutch doom metal act Celestial Season was formed in Nijmegen, Gelderland, in 1991, clearly inspired by the early British bands like Anathema and Paradise Lost. Two tracks off their debut demo "Promises" were picked up by the Swiss underground label Witchhunt Records who released them as the "Flowerskin" 7" EP. Following the release of the band's debut album "Forever Scarlet Passion" on France's Adipocere Records in 1993 the band would cover European stages with Nightfall and Sadness.
During 1995 the band drifted from their metallic roots in order to focus on a more groove oriented stoner rock sound which would result in the 1997 release "Orange". Frontman Stefan Ruiters would also be replaced by Cyril Crutz. The band's 2000 outing "Lunchbox Dialogues" would be released on their own imprint La Guapa. That year a European tour alongside stoner rock colleagues Hoek and The Mushroom River Band would also take place. Celestial Season would eventually call it a day in February 2002.
In late 2006 former Celestial Season members Jacques de Haard and Rob Snijders would team up with The Gathering front woman Anneke van Giersbergen to create a new project entitled Agua de Annique. Jacques de Haard is also married to Anneke.
