The Norwegian band Conception was formed in 1989. After a couple of demos they formed their own label called CSF Records and began preparing their first regular release. In the beginning of 1991 they entered the Gjøvik Lydstudio to record a four track EP. By now they had evolved from a thrash metal band to more of a melodic / progressive power metal band and since this didn't fit well with the currest vocalist they started looking for a new one. After auditions they decided to stay with Roy S. Khan, a vocalist with classical opera education. Their debut full-length album "The Last Sunset" was recorded and sold about 5000 copies. In Norwegian radio NRK the songs "The Last Sunset" and "Fairy's Dance" reached positions 2 and 3 of the playlist and managed to stay in the top ten for several weeks.
The band had still not received any suitable label offers and in 1992 they recorded a new demo which they sent out to labels. In early 1993 they signed a contract with Noise Records. Their second album "Parallel Minds" was recorded in Hanover's Stairway To Heaven Studios and Saarbrücken's FAR Studios under guidance from Tommy Newton (Helloween, Voodoo Cult etc.). Before finishing the album they went on a short festival tour together with Gamma Ray, Rage and Helicon. They also recorded a music video for the song "Roll The Fire" which was shown on MTV and VIVA among others. After the album entered the Japanese charts at number 23, Tore visits Japan for the first time to meet with the press.
In 1994 the band changed keyboard players and went on tour through Germany and the Benelux countries as co-headliners with Threshold. Another European tour came shortly together with Skyclad. In June they started writing new material for their third album "In Your Multitude" and yet again Tommy Newton was chosen as producer. The album was released in April 1995. After a festival in Norway called Isle Of Calf the band decided to take a break and gather new energy. In early 1996 the band got back together again and they now went to Japan and played a few gigs. In early October they once again entered Stairway To Heaven to record the next album "Flow" which was released in April 1997. This released was followed by their first Norwegian tour. Soon after this the band split up.
