All started in February 1993, when Waheduzzaman" Wahed"Khan-g and Khwaja
Sarfaraz Latifullah-g conceived the idea of forming a metal band. Their
friends Chowdhury Fazle Shakib-bg, Farshed Mahmud-dr and Iresh
Zaker-voc joined with them and the band was formed. Shakib came up with the
name “Cryptic Fate” while praying Tarabi Namaz at the mosque. Cryptic Fate
soon performed in a concert in Scholastica and got very good response
from the crowd. Later that year Iresh leaves the band. Shakib takes over
as the lead vocal. Sagar, a jazz/blues musician joins the band as a
guest member and together they play in a concert in Scholastica. Due to
time constraint, Cryptic Fate only performs 1 song. The band is on the
verge of break up after this. In 1994 Shakib comes up with the tune for
Cryptic Fate’s first song “Chapters of Fate”. Farshed writes the lyrics
and names the song. The band gets a mixed response for their 1st
composed song. Farshed leaves for USA and the band is again on the verge of breaking down. Shakib wanted to
break the band but Farshed insisted to keep on going. In 1995 Farshed
comes back to Dhaka for summer vacation and the band decides to start
working on their first album. The band works day and night and comes up
with the first 8 tracks of “Ends are forever” including the chorus
“Withered Alive” composed by Shakib. The band then started recording their
songs in Soundgarden Studio. It takes the band 9 full shift to record and
mix the album including the 9th track “Apprehension”.(Line up during
the album: Shakib-voc, bg, Sarfaraz-g, Wahed-g, Farshed-dr). The album
was released by Soundtek Productions and Cryptic Fate gets moderate
success and selling over 2000 copies.
Wahed goes to USA while Shakib and Sarfaraz join Independent University
of Bangladesh (IUB), Dhaka. Here Shakib becomes good friend with
Farhan. In 1996 the band does some composing in the summer for one month only
to realise that they don’t have the ability to play them yet. In
December, Shakib is invited by Thrashold (a metal band) to perform in a
concert in January at ICMA Auditorium.
1997 - 1st Concert: Cryptic Fate makes a list of 18 songs for the concert at
ICMA Auditorium and practices them for 4 days. The band opens with their
title track from “Ends Are Forever” and goes on to sing the whole
album. The Audience goes wild and the concert was a huge success for Cryptic
Fate.Summer, 2nd Album: The band gets together in summer and re-records
all the materials they had recorded in 1996. Once again they record
their whole album in Soundgarden studio. They name the album “Sreshtho”.
(Line up during the album: Shakib-voc,bg, Sarfaraz-g, Wahed-g,
Farshed-dr).
The rest of the year the band searches for a production company to
release album.
In 1998 Manzur, a friend from IUB, joins the band as a drummer. Cryptic
Fate also decides to try out Farhan as a rhythm guitarist. They perform
in a concert at Agargaon Community Center. Impressed by his skills,
Shakib asks Farhan to join the band (on July 12th). Farhan gladly accepts
the proposal. The band is offered a concert at the end of July. Due to
absence of Sarfaraz, Cryptic fate decides to take Emon (from Jolly
Rogers) as the guest lead guitarist and Farhan as the rhythm guitarist.
Emon proves unable to handle the leads and Farhan is asked to take over.
He does a great job and the band performs great in the concert. The band
does two more concerts in the year with help from Gibran (Dethrow) and
Rinku as support guitarists.
Sarfaraz and Farshed return in the summer 1999 and the band decides to
organize their own concert. Together with "Tantrik", "Kopprophilia" and
"Dethrow", they organize a concert in mid July. The band prepares 18
songs for the concert and blows the audience away. The concert was a huge
success. The year later Cryptic Fate performs in quite a few concerts
with good success. Arafat joined the band as guest drummer. The high
light of the year is the open air concert held on RAOWA Club where Fate
performs 2 songs (due to time constraint). They perform “Nisshongo”,
their own song and it is a huge hit. In 2001Cryptic Fate gets signed up by
Pepsi. Sarfaraz was forced to leave the band because of commitment to
the band. They perform (all english songs) in a concert at Army Stadium
with moderate success. The concert marked the introduction of Fate’s
new drummer, Turjo. Around the end of the year (during Ramadan), Fate is
invited to Duray to contribute a song in the mixed album called “Charpatra”. Shakib composes the whole song except
for the actual lead. For the 1st time Farhan takes part in the
composition (line up during the album: Shakib-voc,bg, Farhan-g, Turjo-dr).
In 2002 decided to produce another album called “Anushilon”. This time
around Cryptic Fate is asked to give 2 songs for the album. Because of
rushed recording, the band does not get enough time to compose the
songs and Farhan and Shakib plays the drums. Farhan plays “Shokal Choita”
while Shakib plays “Eito Cholchey”. By this time Sarfaraz in back and
helps them to finish the 2nd song. Finally their second album “Sreshtho”
is out in the market. The album is a huge success all over Bangladesh.
