| Band biography |
Originally started as a fun project you could see the band on the local stages after a half year , where the Herner could book some noting successes. However they did not come despite violent efforts beyond the local status, so that those almost broke the band apart. In the following reorientation phase Chris took the fate of the group into his hands for the first time and consistently at the conversion operated. Gradually the correct musicians for CUSTARD were found and the musical quality rose enormously, so the name CUSTARD became a synonym for good Thrash Metal on local level.
After a first demo Tape with the title " SIGNA INFERRE ", with which CUSTARD could gain also in the Underground press some ground, changed itself the original style almost imperceptibly to a rather epic type, in which melodies were to be constituted ever more frequently than core of the Songs. Unfortunately all musicians could not identify themselves with so that renewed personnel modifications became necessary. Thus the future route of march and with each new musician was defined many new influences came into the band. The Herner put powerfully in things and really fast the material for a mini CD was written.
High-motivated the guys started with their first studio-production, the EP " GOD OF STORM " . The result of these recordings convinced the Underground press once more and also the prominent magazines of the Metal scene threw a view to Herne and reported about the interesting development of the small band from the Ruhr district for the first time. Thus also a small agency became attentively on CUSTARD. So strengthened even a small tour through Germany could be organized as support of the category size Skyclad. Again to expect CUSTARD were taken up cordially by the audience of the folk metal band and so they could be established each evening before a well filled club.
Accelerated by this unexpected success the CUSTARD's fell itself into the Songwriting for the first full-size album. With " KINGDOMS OF YOUR LIFE " a product came out which did not have to hide itself behind the international competition. This acknowledgement from competent direction opened some door for the Herner and according to this many concerts in the whole federal territory could be played. Due to the co-operation with the label Belphigor and the distributor Point Music, the album was published world-wide a little later.
Also the international press and also the fans certified an international format to CUSTARD. Thus could be played more gigs with well known bands of this genre. Afterwards the internal organization of the band and also the business relations had to be restructured fundamentally, which in the meantime had developed. After this break the five began again with the songwriting. The last production put the measuring pole very highly. So the next album had to become still better than the latter, therefore this process took up somewhat to more time.
Even as CUSTARD was ready for the next impact, the label resolved themselves and had to look for a new partner for the publication. Thus it lasted still some time, until the studio could be booked and the recordings to the current album began.
Also " FOR MY KING " could inspire the international press, as also at first time the fans in many countries. With BO Records CUSTARD could get a quite competent partner and a professional management was there, too. Co-operation with different Booking agencies was successful and in that way CUSTARD became a well- booked band, which could collect much experience with a larger audiences, also on festival-stages in some countries of Europe.
Apart from the regular live activities also special projects are often scheduled with CUSTARD. So they recently took part in a set of tribute albums for well known bands, not only from the metal genre. Contributions are e.g. on albums of the Scorpions, Accept and even Abba whereby CUSTARD was always endeavored not to change by force the actual Song of the interpreters but rather the bridgings to create someting between the CUSTARD own style and the atmosphere of the original songs. If you believes the criticisms of the press, then this projects also succeeded, even if thereby no price for originality is to be surely won. But that´s not the target of tributes, they think.
Beside the European partner BO records, there are some partners abroad who work on the constant success of CUSTARD. So also could be conquered the difficulty valid American market from CUSTARD and the partners to the satisfaction. Now albums can be driven out world-wide.
With the current album " FOR MY KING " could be completed the long due step in the international music business and they could get a quite large fan municipality by right few pride to be. Unfortunately CUSTARD is not protected before internal discrepancies. So in September 2001 it was necessarily to do personnel modifications again. The bassist Micha and guitarist Dirk terminated their cooperation with the guys, so it took some time to get adequate nwe musicians. With Jens they found a worthy successor for Micha quite fast. The search for a suitable guitarist lasts a little longer, but with Holger they found their new man in october. To the current plans of CUSTARD also belong things like an live-album and/or a video apart from the next Studio album and the constant live-work. Thus it probably does not become boringly for the musicians of CUSTARD in the future!
