American industrial death metal act Daath was formed in 2003 by Atlanta, Georgia, natives Eyal Levi, Mike Kameron and Sean Farber who dropped out from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston in order to pursue their own music full-time. The word "daath" is Hebrew for "knowledge" and at least Eyal Levi is of Jewish descent. The band was originally known as Dirt-Nap but they changed their name to Daath in late June 2003.
Their album "The Hinderers" was worked on during 2004 and at first mixed by former Death/Testament guitarist James Murphy who also guested with a few guitar solos alongside Jim Malone of Arsis. Kevin Talley (Chimaira, Dying Fetus, Misery Index) would lay down drums on several tracks (he would join the band full-time in 2006). September 2004 saw the band parting ways with drummer Corey Brewer and recruiting bassist Jeremy Creamer. In December guitarist Sam Cuadra would also bow out.
In early April 2005 it was announced that Daath had been signed to Roadrunner Records by veteran A&R man Monte Conner after having learned about the band from his friend James Murphy. Three scheduled Florida shows in late July 2006 had to be cancelled since Eyal Levi underwent surgery to remove his appendix. Finalizing their debut album Murphy had been upgraded to producer while Colin Richardson (Bullet For My Valentine, Machine Head) handled mixing duties. "The Hinderers" was released in March 2007.
In early June the band would play select dates on the Summer Slaughter tour headlined by Necrophagist and then perform as a second stage act on Ozzfest throughout the summer.
