Daysend was started in early 2003 by guitarist Aaron Bilbija
after the break down of his previous band Psi. Kore. He quickly drafted
Meredith Webster and Matt Lamb (the bassist and drummer of Psi.Kore,
respectively) into his new project, although Lamb left shortly after.
Bilbija and Webster were then joined by Bilbija's ex-Deadspawn bandmates
Michael Kordek, Wayne Morris and Dave Micallef in the remaining roles.
Micallef left the band shortly before they played their first shows,
forcing the band to play their first two shows instrumentally. Simon
Calabrese, formerly of nu metallers Redsands replaced him.
With a settled line-up, the band set about the writing and recording of
their debut album, Severance, which was released in October 2003 just
before the band played a high profile tour in support of Strapping Young
Lad. This was their second major support, having supported Swedish
thrash kings, The Haunted earlier in the year.
In January 2004, Daysend were given the accolade of 'Australian Metal
Album Of The Year', by Australian youth radio station, Triple J. A major
support slot with Entombed followed. The band shot a video clip for the
song, Born Is The Enemy, in March.
The band's impressive momentum continued when they were signed to
American label Metal Blade in May, and picked up the local support slot for
In Flames' inaugural Australian tour.
