In 2008 a promoter asked veteran metal guitarist Ralph Santolla if he could put together a band for some Japanese dates. Ralph called some of his friends who had previously been involved with some of extreme metal's greatest such as Exhorder, Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Dimmu Borgir, Nile and Death. The band was branded Death Metal Allstars by the promoter and the five Japanese shows took place in late November / early December 2008. Songs from the musicians' past acts such as Deicide, Obituary and Cannibal Corpse were selected for the set list. The band had been planning to continue working together even after the tour but according to a statement by Ralph it will not be death metal and they will decide a real band name.
