DEEP RED is a brutal death metal band from Helsinki
(Finland), formed in April-May 1999 by guitarists Ilkka & Antti and drummer
Teemu. With no luck finding other real deathmetalheads in the Helsinki
area the 3-piece recorded the first demo "Yours in Murder" few months
later with the founding line-up.
After the first demo Deepred finally got the line-up together as Dani
(vocals) and Henkka (bass) joined the band. With the new line-up Deepred
played the first shows around Finland and also recorded a new demo "All
Will See Rebirth".
Both of the demos gained the band interest from several labels and then
early 2000 Deepred was signed to BLUNT FORCE RECORDS in USA for the
debut full-length album release.
More domestic shows followed on regular basis and Deepred established
themselves as one of the most extreme live acts in Finland. The debut
album "Prophetic Luster" was recorded summer 2000 at CURSED STUDIO with
Jani Loikas. Blunt Force Records released the album later the same year
and the response has been praising ever since.
In 2001 the album was released again, this time for European market by
FORENSICK MUSIC. The band played it's first show outside Finland
headlining the Banzai Extreme Metal Fest in St. Petersburg, Russia. Vocalist
Dani left the band shortly after and was replaced by Tommi Havo
(Khert-Neter, Morbid Savouring?). With the new vocalist Deepred played a small
tour through Czech, Slovakia and Germany in August-September and also
appeared at the Ludwigshafen Deathfest in Germany.
After the fall 2001 tour Ilkka and Antti were not happy anymore with
the way the band was working so bassist Henkka and drummer Teemu had to
go and the remaining trio started looking for new members.
A new drummer was found at Santeri Salmi, the drummer of local
death/thrash band DAUNTLESS. Things worked fine for a while but after a couple
of months he left the band and vocalist Tommi decided to quit too.
Shortly after Ilkka and Antti found themselves jamming once again with the
old drummer Teemu so the band was back at the founding 3-piece line-up.
Early 2002 saw a new Deepred release as the Dying Fetus/Deepred split
7" was released by RELAPSE RECORDS. This EP featured the last recorded
material with Dani on vocals and Henkka on bass, recorded summer 2001 at
Cursed Studio. Another split 7" (with Slugathor) is scheduled for April
release on SNUFF RECORDS in Czech Republik, featuring a leftover song
from Prophetic Luster session and the bands Impetigo cover songs,
already on the Impetigo tribute ?Wizards of Gore? (Razorback Records).
Finally a new vocalist was found in Rodrigo Artiga (ex-KABAK, El
Salvador) so Deepred is back with a vengeance and more brutal than ever. The
band is currently working on a new album to be recorded later in 2002
and have also lots of shows lined up through the year, including the
Gothenburg Deathfest in Sweden, Mountains of Death Open Air in Switzerland
etc etc. Until a new bassist is found Deepred will perform live as
4-piece with Antti handling the bass.
This far Deepred has shared the stage with bands such as Ancient Rites,
Amon Amarth, Blood, Severe Torture, Pyaemia, Disavowed, Embedded,
Necroterio, Martyrium Christi, Laniena Mentis, Sanatorium, Centinex,
Slugathor, Rotten Sound, Morbid Savouring, Torn, Torsofuck + many more!
On July 28th, 2004, it was announced on the band's official website that they had cancelled their upcoming European tour and split up.
