Some members were friends (drummer Bizzaro, bass guitarist Afagddu, singer/guitarist Jaacob) before starting the band, they knew others who were able to play some instruments (the solo guitarist Ankhabuth and D'aven on keyboards), so they asked them to join and the band with the basic line up was complete... One year later, the last element, female singer Tanyya joined the band and completed it. "We wanted to penetrate into some avant-garde or experimental areas of music & try to find our own path. Demimonde wanted to become one of the most original acts in the Czech scene and this was our fuel, which pushed us to work together. To make something new." says D'aven (keyboards).
Demimonde is, if you translate this word from French language, "Half-World" or metaphorically "Underworld", our parallel dimension of reality (Half reality)-through which the band express themselves... (But also note that the other meaning & translation of Demimonde is the dark side of society with some prostitutes, thieves, etc.) The group was satisfied by the choice of the name, the word Demimonde has a very strange, attractive, exotic and erotic sound, in their opinion. The style of the music can be defined by the band members as: 1) Cosmic Postmodern Art (this is the official style description invented by a discussion inside the band) 2) AAA Metal (triple-A means Avant-garde Atmospherical Art...btw, in the economical terminology it is used for the best quality rating) 3) In the larger description: Postmodern Techno(logic) trip from Metal to trance, psychedelic escape from our world to the half world, forward thinking connections of contradictions. ...But most of the times in the reviews it is considered a mix of atmospheric doom - black with ambient, electronic and new millennium influences.
The core of Demimonde was stable all the time. The first album "The warrior’s poets" (1997) was recorded also with the help of Kashtan (guitar and other male vocals, beside Jaacob), but Kashtan left the band shortly after... And right then the "Mutant star" era started: they recorded in the beginning of the 2000 year. They spent 3 years by composing the whole thing and then some 3 weeks non stop to record it. In the middle of the year 2000 they received an offer from the Czech label Epidemie Records, so "Mutant star" was released in the end of the same year. The band did split a half of year later then (spring 2001).
