Dying Fetus was formed in 1991 by John Gallagher and Jason Netherton. After lots of rehearsing
and several demo releases they unleashed their debut album "Purification Through Violence" in
1996. It was released on the now defunct Pulverizer Records, a small metal label from
Singapore. They had in fact released an album earlier but it was completely self-financed and
this was their first label offering. The band has handled most of their promotion and
marketing on their own through their very own label Blunt Force Records. In 2000 they
signed a new deal with the American Relapse Records.
In early 2001 Jason Netherton decided to leave the band and in
April 2001 it was reported that Sparky Voyles and Kevin Talley had been asked to leave
the band due to internal conflicts. John Gallagher then reconstructed the band with a
completely new lineup.
