Enthralled was formed 1996 by Hjalmar Nielsen (guitar and vocals), Hannes Berggren (guitar), Erik Peterson (bass) and Martin Restin (drums) in a small Swedish town 100km east of Gothenburg. The musical direction was heavy thrash metal with death-growl vocals with such inspirations as Slayer, Kreator, Megadeth and Sepultura. The name of the band was at this time "Enthral" and they recorded two four-channel demos with this name. "First Chapter" was recorded in 1996 and "Forever Gone" in 1997. Because of the low quality sound and the fact that they'd just started to learn their instruments, the first two demos were mainly just sold to friends or given away. Not many copies exist of them.
In 1998 they changed the name to "Enthralled" and recorded the five-track demo "Accession". It was a studio production and was sent to several zines and labels over the world. The music had become faster and better played, the arrangements on the songs were more complex than before but still quite primitive. A more melodic touch could be heard compared to the predecessors. Got some good reviews and some bad, no labels were interested though. This year Enthralled had their first gig on a festival, the annual Swedish "Westgotha Festival". Known bands that they had played with at this time was "The Crown" and "Impious".
Not until the year 2000 was the bands fourth demo, "Death Is Breeding", recorded. The line-up had changed, as had the musical direction. By replacing Martin Restin behind the drums with Mikael Norén, great opportunities in making fast and brutal music came to being. In 1999 Enthralled had recorded the song "They Breed" for the compilation album "Voices of Death 3". This was Martin's last contribution to the band.
The recording of Death Is Breeding took place at Studio Eko in Trollhättan and was produced, recorded and mixed by Marko Tervonen and Markus Sunesson of "The Crown" along with Enthralled. This work resulted in four tracks of brutal, fast and well-played death/thrash- metal, and along with an aggressive sound more people started to notice the band. A thing to be mentioned is that the drummer Mikael was only fifteen years old at this time, but he played as good as many older and more experienced drummers. Good reviews and a lot more gig's made them more confidant and they developed into a stabile and furious live-act. Some labels showed interest, but it didn't go thru all the way.
Something was still missing in the band though. The solution became a fifth member, Robert Greén, a separate singer with a more screaming-like and nasty sounding voice than Hjalmar. Hjalmar has not stopped singing, but is just backing up with his growl. Instead he can concentrate more on his guitarwork, especially on stage. This altogether makes Enthralled better and more entertaining live, plus gives them more freedom in making the vocal arrangements for both new and old songs. Now, almost two years after Death Is Breeding, Enthralled has just recorded and released the three-track promo "Anthropomorphous". It's an intensive, technical and very well played piece of work and was recorded at M15 Sonics in Trollhättan. This time Enthralled was greatly involved in the whole process together with "John Frick" and "David Jordansson". The musical direction on Anthropomorphous is brutal, fast death/thrash- metal with some melodic touches and catchy refrains, a natural development from Death Is Breeding.
During the last year Enthralled has played on three festivals, and with some known bands like "Evergrey" and "Lost Horizon". So far the response from listeners have been great, especially regarding the new vocalist Robert and the contrast created between his and Hjalmar's voices.
