Ex Deo is a solo project of Kataklysm frontman Maurizio Iacono. The lyrical concept is completely centered around the Roman Empire. The debut album, "Romulus", was recorded with Kataklysm guitarist Jean-Francois Dagenais who has previously worked with bands like Misery Index, Despised Icon and Malevolent Creation. It was released on May 22, 2009 in Europe and June 16 in North America via Nuclear Blast, also home of Kataklysm.
A video for the title track was filmed in early March 2009 in Belgrade, Serbia, with renowned director Stanimir "Staca" Lukic whose tracklist include Moonspell, Kamelot, Type O Negative and Deathstars.
