Along with bands like Green Day, The Offspring, Rancid, NOFX and many others, face to face was one of the first groundbreaking bands in the new punk genre. They formed in 1991 and released their released their debut album Don't Turn Away in 1992. By then, second guitarist Chad Yaro joined a year later. The band's "classic" line-up, consiting of Trever Keith (guitar, vocals), Chad Yaro (guitarist), Matt Riddle (bass) and Rob Kurth (drums), signed a deal with A&M Records for their 1995 second album Big Choice, which also includes a re-recording of one of their early tracks "Disconnected", which would become one of face to face's popular hits. Before the band could work on their third album, Riddle left the band in 1995 to join No Use for a Name and was replaced by Scott Shiflett, who is the brother of another former No Use for a Name member Chris Shiflett.
face to face continued on and released a number of more albums while frontman Trever Keith would remain as the only constant member. The band had lasted until November 2003, though they did a successful farewell tour in 2004. Keith recently resurfaced in a number of projects such as Legion of Doom and Viva Death, which also features face to face's last bassist Scott Shiflett.
