The Swedish viking metal band Mithotyn was laid to rest in 1999 after the recording of their third full-length album. The band leader Stefan Weinerhall had an idea for some time to make music that suited his own personal taste better and he decided now was the time. The album was finally done and their record label Invasion Records was gone without a trace. During the summer he wrote some songs and in the end of the year the first demo was recorded. After a while he found a vocalist named Mathias Blad and when the band had signed a deal with the American major label Metal Blade Stefan asked Karsten Larsson from his old band Mithotyn to join them which he was more than happy to do. Their first album was recorded at Los Angered Studio in the end of 2000 and released on Metal Blade on the 19th of February 2001 in Europe.
