Formed in 1982 by guitarist "Fast" Eddie Clarke (formerly of Motörhead), drummer Jerry Shirley (formerly of Humble Pie and Natural Gas), bassist Peter Way (formerly of UFO) and vocalist Dave King, Fastway's 1983 self titled debut album peaked at #31 on the strength of Say What You Will which was a b-side to their single Easy Livin'. As Fastway were starting their first U.S. tour, Peter Way left to join Ozzy Osbourne's The Blizzard Of Oz (after a short stint with Osbourne, Way formed Waysted) and was replaced by bassist Charlie McCracken.
They recorded their second album All Fired Up with producer Eddie Cramer and despite the great rockers on this release, the album was practically ignored in the U.K. and the U.S. in which afterwords Shirley and McCracken quit. Clarke and King reformed the group and recorded tracks for the soundtrack to the 1986 horror film Trick Or Treat. Although the soundtrack stayed on the charts for eleven months, the group was never able to capitalize on it and broke up.
King formed the short lived Katmandü with ex Krokus guitarists Mandy Meyer (he would later form The Dave King Band which would evolve into Flogging Molly in '96), Clarke went back to the U.K. in '88 and reformed yet another version of Fastway with former Joan Jett lyricist Lea Hart on vocals and guitar. This version recorded 1988's On Target. In '90 Clarke and Hart reformed the group again and, along with members of the female heavy metal band Girlschool, recorded 1990's Bad Bad Girls which went virtually unheard. Clarke remixed their 1988 album On Target and released it in '98. It seemed that Clarke could never really recapture the raw rock energy of the early 80's version of Fastway.
