In 1999, Forté remains an entity unto itself. While so many so-called metal bands have either disappeared, or sold out to the likes of trend hopping mediocrity, Forté has proudly embraced their faith in true heavy metal.
Formed by brothers Jeff Scott (Guitar) and Greg Scott (Drums) and armed with a total belief in power as well as melody, Forté began its ascent to worldwide recognition in 1990 with their debut e.p. Dementia by Design and has gone on to release four monumental efforts of classic trend-defying new age power metal.
Signed to Germany's Massacre Records in 1992, the band exploded onto the scene with its hyper-speed metal classic, Stranger Than Fiction, followed by 1994's critically acclaimed Division, a stunning leap in depth and maturity.
With the release of 1997's Forté III Destructive the band welcomed the arrival of bassist Richard Sharpe and new vocalist David Thompson, adding the necessary strength and attack needed to complete Forté's devastating live assault.
After performing shows over 1997-1998 with the likes of Testament, King Diamond, Hammerfall, Exodus, Death, and Suicidal Tendencies, the band focused its energy to create their most powerful work to date. With the release of 1999's Rise Above, the band firmly establishes itself as an unstoppable force on the international metal scene.
Rise Above is the album most metal bands wish they could still pull off. Throughout the albums ten tracks, Forté effortlessly engages in complex melodies, incredible dynamics and explosive song structures, from the vicious speed metal blast of Man Against Machine, Fading Away, 1999 and Destroyer, to the power and grace displayed on the albums title track as well as the first single, Forgiven, an epic cyber edged classic power metal monster, Forté delivers on the brilliance hinted at on past releases, combining jackhammer guitars, machine gun drumming and the primal melody of vocalist David Thompson.
In Rise Above, Forté has created an instant classic of epic power metal, embellished by fantastic cover art from Jeff Hester (Forté), and Dan Muro (Dream Theater) as well as a crystal clear production, the band has created the most welcomed of all things in the musical wastelands of the nineties, true heavy metal.
Following the albums spring 1999 release, the band will begin touring North America extensively, including an appearance of Powermad 1999, America's premiere metal festival. A long-awaited European tour is being actively sought for Fall 1999.
