The band Gangrena was founded in 2003 in Tyumen by Krokodile – at the moment a drummer of sympho death band Molot Vedim. This band was quite famous in Ural-Siberian region, and in fact is a first significant heavy project in Tyumen oblast. The first Gangrena’s “studio” line-up was formed by July 2003:
Alexander “Krokodile” Chernoskulov – vocals, guitar, drums
Yuri Maxim – guitar
Eugeniy “Mozart” Dochilov – bass
In April 2004 the band went to Ekaterinbourg to record drum tracks for “demo 2004” at the Pinoccio studio. All other instruments were manufactured home handmade. The instrumental part of the work was done by May, and the vocal tracks recorded in October.
By that time the problem with a drummer for live shows has been solved: a musician of doom metal band Fatum (Ekaterinbourg) Anatoly Kompanets became a session Gangrena’s drummer.
The first show was given on October 2 2004 on stage of a local club Hangar 18 as a warm-up band for power metal band Archontes (Moscow). Then there followed a series of performances at different metal gigs and fests.
In the beginning of 2005 an official Gangrena’s website was opened. Its primary aim was to ensure free access to the promo materials of the band. Soon Gangrena gave its first interview to French webzine Orpheus and signed a contract with a Portuguese label Enclave Records on including of one track into “Metal Ostentation compilation, vol. 11” CD. The band also received some offers from Russian and foreign Internet radio stations for rotation.
In May 2005 “demo 2004” was sent for reviews to extreme issues of Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Czech Republic, UK, Germany, Canada, USA and Brazil.
By that time the instrumental inventory had changed and consisted of 5-string bass, 6-string and 7-string guitars. The “demo 2004” was rearranged and the sound had significantly powerful.
In April 2006 the band changed the bass-guitarist. The new member of the band was Alexander “KuZZ” Kuznetsov – former Molot Vedim member. With the new line-up the band embarked upon the work on the previously and new composed music material. Since the end of June the band worked on it’s first album, which included 8 tracks. Three of which are published in raw mix version as “Pre-Release 2006” and are available on the official website.
August 11 2006 Gangrena took part at the largest open air extreme music festival in the Eastern Europe Metal Heads’ Mission VII at the same stage with Moonfog (Slovakia), Deepred (Finland), Sickbag (France), Mental Demise (Ukraine), Dead Infection (Poland) with the headline of Holy Moses (Germany) and Tiamat (Sweden).
Early 2007 the band decided to expand the line-up by taking the additional guitarist Igor “Mars”Leushin from the thrash metal band Militorum. Since that moment Gangrena play live with session singers and Krokodile on drums.
Nowadays the band making the mix of the first album searching for a label for official release of the recorded material.
