Somewhere in late 1998 a few guys from the same region in Flanders: the 'Meetjesland', decided to form a pagan metalband: Haat(guitars) and Plaegh (drums) from Sleidinge, and Vraeck (vocals) and Kaiser (bass) from Beke. This band was a continuation of the black metal activities performed by Haat and Plaegh as early as 1994. Due to a lack of rehearsing facilities these activities came to an end until Vraeck inticed them to start again. Since some members also played in other bands it took a while to obtain a stable line-up. Since 2000 the band consists of Vraeck, Plaegh, Fenrir (bass) and Kwelle (guitars). Both Fenrir (ex-Bellator - R.I.P.) and Kwelle (ex-Faustian Moon - R.I.P.) hail from Waarschoot, the town where the band now rehearses. A name was found in a local legend telling about the horde of Garm, a pagan spirit which roamed the surrounding woods slaying all that was holy. The four called themselves: GARMENHORD. In october 2000 a first demotape was recorded in Garmenhord's rehearsal place, called 'Chronicles of Arcane Wastelands'. Influences of Primordial, Kampfar, Burzum, Arckanum could already be noticed, leading to a melodic blend of mostly mid-tempo pagan metal. Reactions to the tape were pretty good, T-shirts sold out really fast and people spilled their blood during concerts. After the first recording, Garmenhord developed an even more medieval pagan style, which came totally natural to the band. The lyrics evolved into heathen hymns, in a self-constructed medieval Flemish tongue, mostly dealing with local Meetjesland subjects: local landmarks, forests and myths. This resulted in a new mini-CD recorded in august 2002, a concept album packed with Meetjesland history and Flemish subjects. Plans for the future, regularly announced on a brand new website, include a few concerts (including the famous Lugburz festival in october), new T-shirts... Everything else is a plus, not a must. For Garmenhord will always remain what it was set out to be: a number of regional rednecks from the Meetjesland doing nothing but enjoying themselves!
