The history Guns N' Roses begins in 1982 when Axl Rose (born William Bruce Bailey but has changed his name legally to William Axl Rose since Rose was his biological father's name) and his friend Izzy Stradlin (born Jeffrey Isbell) had both moved from their home town of Lafayette, Indiana, to Los Angeles (Izzy actually moved in 1980). The two performed with a variety of local hard rock bands and played with many well-known musicians in the city. Guns N' Roses was finally born in March of 1985, drawing the name from the fact that they featured musicians from the bands Hollywood Rose and L.A. Guns (they had rejected names like Heads Of Amazon and AIDS). The band quickly grew to become one of the most famous rock bands in the world with many songs on the toplists worldwide. Their rise to fame is better covered elsewhere.
