The first two records from New York quintet H20 were
bone-crushingly raw yet melodically sparse and, overall, little more than
fratboy hardcore. Though smooth, shouting vocalist Toby Morse (who roadied
for Sick of It All before starting H20) doesn't write lyrics aglow with
evil, you probably don't want to piss him off, either. What stands out
most about H20's third album, F.T.T.W. (Epitaph), after the communal
goodwill of Morse's lyrics, is that H20 have got their melody meters
cranked up to 10 along with their volume. H20 have churned out a set of
songs more blisteringly power pop than hardcore. New bassist Adam Blake
(from Shelter) and drummer Todd Friend suggest elements of classic rock
by applying the flexible rhythms of The Who to H20's harried tunes.
