Band biography
HIM photo
HIM was formed in the summer of 1995 by five friends from school. After two demo tapes, the second one featuring a cover of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game", they signed a record contract with the major label BMG. Both demos were recorded in 1995. The first one in Lepakko and featuring Ville on drums and vocals and Linde on guitars and bass. By the time they recorded the second demo in the summer in Tapanila they had grown into a full band. Their album "Razorblade Romance" became a huge success for the band and sold more than a million copies. During the years HIM has gone through plenty of line-up changes. Many sources claim that HIM stands for His Infernal Majesty but band leader Ville has denied this and says that the band name has no meaning and was never intended to have one from the very beginning. The band is known in the US as Her since there is already a Chicago based band who owns the right of the HIM name. Their debut four track EP "666 Ways To Love: Prologue" was only released in Finland in 1996, limited to 1000 copies. In September 2004 they signed a new contract with Sire Records, part of the Warner Bros company.
