Hacksaw To The Throat is the finalized stage of Ben Caragol and Justin Hughes playing loud, fast, and aggressive music in different forms and under different names. Ben has played guitar since he was 5 and has been in numerous mediocre thrash bands ever since the age of 11. Justin has been playing drums since he was about 12 in The Kazakhstanian Narcotics from Hell with A Vengeance and the Pud-Knockers. Ben and Justin met up and started thrashing in Ben's basement, where Justin managed to destroy all the heads and break all the cymbals on Ben's dad's drumset. Ben and Justin went on to start writing some basic old-school thrash style songs. Eventually the music went in a more extreme death / grind direction and Ben and Justin became known as Hacksaw To The Throat. The 2-man grind project proceeded to write music and started making a name for themselves playing the Chateau in Berkeley to a very destructive / drunken audience, the Pound in SF with Impaled and End of All (All Shall Perish) among other shows. They churned out some rushed recorded material that is thankfully out of circulation forever (the extremely rare LACERATION demo tape, and 2 different versions of MIDNIGHT BLOODFEAST demo). The live show was always intense and furious, but the sound of just one guitar was treble-heavy and thin. The band proceeded to pick up bassist / growler Caysen Russo (All Shall Perish) and guitarist Victor Dods (Boof) to complete their lineup. The additional members really helped not only in strengthening the sound of the band, but also in adding a new perspecting to writing music and evolving the Hacksaw sound - The band explored sounds, rhythms, and lyrical themes uncommon in most metal music and the songs kept the fast thrash feel while going in a more melodic direction. With a good amount of material under their belt, the band went to DigiSound Studios in San Pablo and churned out a full length 11-song CD under the production of Andrew LaBarre (ex-Impaled). The band is currently self-promoting this independent recording which has received an amazing response from people inside and outside of the metal / hardcore community. Hacksaw To The Throat is playing shows in the SF Bay Area to promote their new CD "Tear my eyes out...", which is available at Amoeba, Rasputin's, and Streetlight records, and will soon be available on the website.
