Heroine was originally known under the name Warbride and had existed locally on the Los Angeles glam rock scene before disbanding. In 1991 the band was being reformed by the founding member, keyboardist and California native Velia Goray. The new line-up included another California native Kim Smith on bass, young Australian guitarist Samantha Taylor (who played bass briefly with Phantom Blue), Canadian Michele Pickering on drums and Suzanne Hearts on vocals who had relocated to Los Angeles from Brooklyn, New York, together with her boyfriend Johnny Hearts but they had now broken up. They performed many shows in the Los Angeles club scene and appeared on a local music channel. They also recorded some demo tapes and video taped many of their gigs and rehearsals. In time they broke up due to musical differences but everyone except for keyboardist Goray continued under the name Heroine with a heavier thrash metal influenced sound. They recorded a tape with producer Mikey Davis at a studio that he co-ran with the then unknown producer Ross Robinson who was working with Korn on their first demo at the time. Heroine hoped to secure a record contract in Europe with their new material but once again inner struggle resulted in the band splitting up once again Suzanne lived in Ohio for a while before taking a nine to five job in New York City.
