Hurricane was a melodic hard rock band from Los Angeles, California, that formed in 1984. Kevin DuBrow of Quiet Riot introduced guitarist Robert Sarzo and bass player Tony Cavazo to each other in the early 80s. When the duo decided to form a band together they recruited vocalist Kelly Hansen and drummer John Shearer (to be replaced by Jay Schellen only a year later) among others. As they didn't have much interest from major labels at first they recorded a mini album on their own called "Take What You Want". The album and constant touring eventually led to a major label deal though as they signed with Enigma Records. They did one US top 40 single called "I'm On To You" and also five top 5 MTV videos. Touring included both North America and Japan alongside bands like Cheap Trick, Iron Maiden, Stryper, Poison, MSG, Gary Moore and Ted Nugent. While the band was on tour in 1991 promoting their album "Slave To The Thrill" they received news that their label Enigma Records had declared bankruptcy. The parent company, Capitol Records, was interested in continuing the cooperation but failed to come to an agreement with the band. Suddently without a record contract and with the music scene changing Hurricane decided to take a break. The members went on to work with various other bands. Having been close friends and crossing paths several times during the years Kelly and Jay decided to resurrect the band and a new album was released in 2001.
