The American thrash metal / hardcore hybrid Hurtlocker was formed in Chicago, Illinois, in 1998 by vocalist Grant Belcher and guitarist Tim Moe who were tired of the city's metal scene. Defying mainstream influences was the driving idea and they began writing music together. After having recorded 10 songs in a home studio they realized that their drummer wasn't as serious about the band as they were. A series of drummers went in and out. A couple of demos later they had secured a contract with Austria's Napalm Records. Even as an unsigned act, Hurtlocker shared stages with established metal giants such as Anthrax, King Diamond and Lamb Of God.
