Icon was an American heavy metal band that formed under the monicker The Schoolboys in the late 70s. After having released an EP on their own called "Singin', Shoutin'" they changed their name to Icon. Mike Varney, head of Shrapnel Records, discovered the band and helped them land a deal with major label Capitol Records. Their album "Right Between The Eyes" featured guest vocals from Alice Cooper. Guitarist Dan Wexler also guested on the Cooper album "A Fistful Of Alice". The band split up in 1990 following a British tour in support of Kings X where they also had the chance to open up for Ace Frehley. The biggest crowd they ever performed for was in 1988 when they opened for Cinderella in Scottsdale, Arizona. An estimated 18,000+ were in attentance. In 1988 and 1989 Icon sometimes played Cat Stevens' "First Cut Is The Deepest" during live shows.
