Anyone familiar with Norway and more specifically Oslo is not at all surprised when they're told about how cold and dank the city and country can be. They would also not be surprised to learn that Oslo is one of the most sinister cities in all of Europe. So, by simple deduction, if we told you that a metal band from Oslo, Norway that goes by the name Insense was the epitome of cold, aggressive and extreme... it shouldn't be a surprise.

Insense, comprised of guitarist/vox Tommy Hjelm, drummer Håvard Iversen, guitarist Martin Rygge and bassist Magnus R Ruud, found a mutual apathy towards the local "Nu-Metal" scene of corpse-painted dimwits and Korn wannabes and felt the need to develop an extreme metal band that encompassed all of the elements that made metal great in its early days.

The band quickly began writing and playing live locally to eager ears and eyes. Bringing their technically brutal riffs and aggressive melodies to the masses won them scores of new fans and the attention of their peers and the press. It wasn't only the bands intense songs, but their brutal stage shows that left members bloody and bruised night after night.

Not unlike other freshman bands, Insense hit the studio and recorded their now infamous self-titled debut. Though recorded in the spring of 2001, it wasn't until June of the following year that American label This Dark Reign; a subsidiary of Devil Doll Records would release the album. The minute the critics got hold of it, the comparisons began; ranging from the technical ability of Dillinger Escape Plan and Fear Factory to the blatant death metal of Pig Destroyer and even Nasum.

Now, three years later and with a new drummer, Truls Haugen, Insense are back with their sophomore recording, now on Black Balloon Records, which promises to be less technical and doubly brutal. Hey, sometimes a band just needs to rock. You've been warned.
