INSISION crawled out of the depth of Stockholm in the
beginning of 1997. The band was formed out of the
ashes of underground acts like EMBALMER and ILDOOR.
Soon the band was a four piece containing guitarists
Patrik Muhr and Joonas Ahonen along with drummer
Thomas Daun and vocalist Johan Thornberg. Their first
musical sign came in may 1998 when the demo "Ment to
Suffer" was released. This tape was one of the most
brutal and promising tapes ever in the swedish Death
Metal underground, and it was widely praised.
Later in 1998 Patrik Muhr was replaced by the
amazingly skilled Roger Johansson, formerly guitarist
of DISFIGURED. Roger immediately took musical command
within the band, driving INSISION towards new hights
of technical brutality. Now the record labels started
to notice the band, and in the late 98 INSISION signed
for Heathendoom Music. The debut MCD "The Dead Live
On" was recorded in just a few days at the Necromorbus
Studio in January 1999, and released just one month
later.
INSISIONs debut was a milestone in brutal swedish
death metal, it sounded like no other swedish band had
ever sounded before. The worldwide response was
massive. Roger and Tomas urge to drive the bands
musical approach even further soon made Jonas and
Johan to leave the band too, the bass player INSISION
had used up to this date also had to give up his
duties in the band. The two remaining members now
started to create an even more grinding and complex
kind of Death Metal full time. Months of hard
rehearsing brutalized and perfected the bands style.
There was only one problem: lack of members.
But like a gift from "below" Daniel Ekeroth, the bass
player of DELLAMORTE, soon offered himself to pick up
the bass for INSISION. Now the weels really started to
turn, and soon former AZATOTH singer Carl Birath
joined as singer. With the amazing skills of Daniel
and Carl, INSISION was on the move again - big time!
A few live shows followed with bands like DARK FUNERAL,
MERCILESS and THE HAUNTED, and INSISION was hailed
everywhere for their excellent performances. In May
2000 they enter the Real Studio to put some new tracks
on tape. The result "Promo 2000" is just stunning -
brutality and precision to the limit! INSISION had by
this time developed a uniqe style of their own, with
sick sound, complex but catchy riffs and blasting
drums. The whole world was amazed, and offers from
bigger labels started to show up.
More shows followed, with bands like HYPOCRISY and
SOILS of FATE, and everybody hailed the band wherever
they got. But INSISION still had new ideas for their
music, and was constantly seeking for a second
guitarist skilled enough to team up alongside the
other members. A very difficult task it was, nobody
seemed to able to follow the complex structure and
speed of INSISIONS riffing. But suddenly they found
the ultra-talanted guitarist Toob Brynedal, former
guitarist and vocalist of GENOCIDE FEROX. He joins in
march 2001, and INSISION soon has their debut show as
a five-piece as opening act for DISGORGE (mex). The
show is a complete success, INSISION once again proves
to be one of the best live acts within the metal
scene. The band seems to go from strength to strength.
INSISION soon enters the Necromorbus Studio again to
record an earlier planned 10" split E.P with
INVERACITY for greek label Nuclear Winter. The
recording is also out as a demo under the name
"Revelation of the Sado God". The new songs proved to
be even more intense and twisted than the old ones,
leaving everybody who listens to it totally exhausted.
This was Death Metal in its perfection! It wasn't long
until a deal between INSISION and Earache/Wicked World
was signed.
