The band INTO DARKNESS was formed in summer 1995 by
guitarists Sebastian Laengerer and Christian Popp. Their intention was to form
a death metal band with a maximum of influences such as (mainly)
death-, black-, thrash-, heavy metal and grindcore beyond any trends, just
doing their own thing. After more than one year the band gave up the
search for musicians to complete the
line-up. There were neither motivated nor skillful musicians who could
fit in the band. This problem was solved by doing vocals and bass by
themselves and by programming the drums (and even some of the bass
lines).
In march 1997, their self-produced and self-mixed debut album born out
of this situation, „Misfortunal Odes In D-Minor“ , was released on
cassette in a small numbers (600p.).
Finally, in early autumn 1997, a bassist was found: Florian Kos joined
the band. Session singer J.J. Schork from Heidelbergs black metal
fourpiece GEWEIH completed the recording line-up for the 7 inch EP
„Reanimation“ that was released exclusively on blue vinyl in January 1998. This
record contains new versions of five Misfortunal Odes... songs and was
mixed at SLEEP CHAMBER STUDIOS (Now called SILVER DOME PRODUCTIONS)
with the help of producer Constantin Voujouklidis.
In November 1998, INTO DARKNESS re-recorded two songs for different
compilations. One song, „Facetious Torture“, was featured on the German
underground compilation DEATHOPHOBIA VI, while the second song „Change Of
Course“, was released on french Compilation „Propulsive synphonies I“
and will definitely find its place on the next recording. These new
versions can be seen as a preview of how the new material will sound like:
more brutal and extreme and also more technical and complex, still with
a sense for melody.
Since December 1998 the line-up of INTO DARKNESS was completed by
american drummer Tik who made the first Gigs possible. From March 1999 on,
the band played several gigs in germany, and in
September 2000 they supported CENTINEX and NUNSLAUGHTER at their
European "Repulsive Revenge Tour" for 13 dates... See also "past gigs"
section below. This was a major step ahead for the band's success in Europe.
Due to lack of time, Chris was not involved in the band during winter
2000/2001, in the meantime he has left the band permanently due to
private reasons and the relocation to Kassel. But he'll still be the
webmaster for Into Darkness and help them on graphical band related stuff.
In March/April, the band was devastating Europe again, on the
self-organized "Blasphemous Enslavement of Darkness" Tour with slovak deathers
DEMENTOR. Sadly after this Tour Tik had left the band due to personal
reasons.
The band started working on a demo version of their full length Album
"Dysphoria“immediately to attract the interest of new musicians and
labels.
Flo has left the band in 2002 which led to a total stop until in
November 2002. He was replaced adequately by new bassist, Bjoern Daigger
(ex-IRONY). Herb Grimm from pals ANASARCA/EYE SEA did the drums
sessionwise, until Chris Merzinsky (ex-PENETRALIA, MIDNAT SOL) joined in
permanently.
Since January 2003, the band has been practising again and is getting
tighter with every practice. In April 2003 they started to record the
long awaited first Album CD „DYSPHORIA“. Hopefully the CD will be out for
the first gigs in autumn/winter 2003.
