Invitro was formed in 2005 in southern California by former Snot and Soulfly guitarist Mike Doling. Their live debut took place on September 19th at The Troubadour in Hollywood. During January 2006 demos were recorded. From December 2006 to February 2007 the band took part in the touring package "The New Revolution" alongside Re:Ignition, Psychostick and Indorphine. Further touring followed in May and June as they were added to many dates of the Static-x / Otep tour.

The band's debut album was originally supposed to have been released in March 2007 but eventually it came out on August 7th via Gridiron Records, a new label founded by Doling himself together with Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackle Kyle Turley. August 7th was the birthday of late Snot frontman Lynn Strait.
