The American hard rock act Jackyl was formed in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1990. Playing local shows they found themselves gaining a loyal fan base and was discovered by the respected A&R man John Kalodner at Geffen Records who signed them and flew them to Los Angeles in April 1992 to record their eponymous album at Rumbo Studios with producer Brendan O'Brien. The band would quickly rise to stardom as the album reached double platinum sales.

Touring in support of the album found them out on the road with Lynyrd Skynyrd but they were thrown off the tour before its completion due to their outrageous behavior on and off stage. The 1994 sophomore effort "Push Comes Yo Shove" did not quite reach the same status as the debut but it still broke the million barrier and was supported by shows with Kiss, ZZ Top and Aerosmith. They would also perform in front of 325,000 people at the Woodstock '94 event in Saugerties, New York. The major department store chain Kmart refused to sell the band's album so they decided to play a concert in front of a Kmart in Georgia around 1993/1994.

John Kalodner now brought the band to Epic Records and in 1997 the newly initiated cooperation resulted in the single "Locked And Loaded", a song co-penned by Jackyl frontman Jesse James Dupree and AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson. Their new full-length album "Cut The Crap" would be produced by Mike Fraser. In early 1997 Brian Johnson also joined Dupree on stage to perform the aforementioned song at the Livestock VII festival in Florida. Jackyl once again found themselves kicked out from a major label and released "Stayin' Alive" in 1998 via the Shimmer Tone Recording Company.

The band would then introduce themselves into the Guinness Book of World Records twice for performing 100 shows in 50 days as well as 21 shows in 24 hours (the latter set up with 45 minute daytime sets and 90-120 minute evening sessions). In 2000 Dupree would issue a solo album entitled "Foot Fetish". Without the support of a major label, Jackyl decided to finance their next album "Relentless" on their own. Brian Johnson of AC/DC fame once again contributed with the song "Kill The Sunshine". In 2002 the band took part in the Rock Never Stops tour alongside Tesla, Vince Neil, Dokken and Skid Row.

2004 saw the release of the CD and DVD "Live at the Full Throttle Saloon" via Sanctuary Records, recorded at the Sturgis Bike Rally in South Dakota in the summer of 2003. In July 2007 Jackyl was invited to join the unique event Rocklahoma in Pryor, Oklahoma, a three-day open air festival entirely dedicated to 80s rock and headlined by the legendary Twisted Sister.
