Mental Home was formed in November of 1993. The band
consisted of Sergey and Igor Dmitriev (brothers of course), Denis Samusev, and
Roman Povarov. They recorded their first demo in 1994 entitled Funeral
Service. They then went back into the studio to record Mirrorland which
was a sell-out. Things were good for a while until lead guitarist Roman
Povarov was in an accident that impaired his left hand. He did leave
the band, he switched to keyboards. Sergey Kalachov was selected as the
new lead guitarist and the band went into the studio and recorded Vale.
After that album was released, Roman Povarov left Mental Home and was
replaced by Michael "Maiden" Smirnoff. He not only replaced Roman and
keyboards, but became the band manager as well. They went on tour and the
fans seemed to like him. The releases attracted The End records and the
band was signed to the company to re-release their previous albums.
Black Art was then released in 1999 on The End records. In 2000, they went and released Upon The Shores Of Inner Seas. However, during
the time, Sergey Kalachov had a long term heroin addiction. He became
harder to handle and he was fired. He was then replaced with Konstantin
Kuznetsov on lead guitar. The band is currently in the studio working
on a new album set for release in late 2004 or early 2005.
